Medical Marijuana Ordinance Adoption in Grand Haven
As some of you may know, I have voiced my strong opinion on the legalization and ultimately access to safe cannabis medication for those wishing to use it over the last 4 years. We presented these concerns in most every municipality on the Lakeshore, with very little considerations. The lack of community awareness of those laws produced a lot of fear and ultimately ended in lost and irrelevant persuasion.
Since then, those conversations turned into statewide efforts issuing the movement of Proposition 1 for Adult Use.. The 12 year and counting medical laws became topic in Grand Haven after several individuals and myself presented their concern for progressive drug laws allowing for the accessibility of that medication. I urged the council to consider the wrongful classification of Cannabis as a harmful drug. I reiterated the need for research and how progressive laws can influence change on a plant that shows relevant use in medicine.
After a year of discussion, the city, given those concerns, drafted a resolution to allow for the ordinance to exist and was given the approval by the city council this past Monday, March 2nd, to finalize the adoption of that ordinance that would allow for Medical Marijuana Facilities to exist in the city limits of Grand Haven.
I want to take this time to personally thank our City Mayor, Bob Monetza, City Council, Planning Commissioners, Staff and Constituents of Grand Haven for their involvement of the progressive decision as two of the only existing cities in Ottawa County to adopt these laws. I truly believe their efforts will set precedence on the outdated drug laws and genuinely take part in the overall wellbeing of there community.
